Situated on the NSW Sapphire Coast less than five hours from Sydney, the townships of Eden and Merimbula boast some of the best wreck diving in Australia. The depths and features of these wrecks make them ideal training sites for wreck and enriched air divers so both of these courses will be offered during our weekend trip.
Dive Sites
These two ocean-going tugs were deliberately scuttled for divers in 1989 and purchased for only $1 each!
Tasman Hauler 20 - 30 metres
The Tasman Hauler is particularly impressive and has been the subject of numerous photography awards. The wreck lies upright on the sand with four easily penetrable levels which beckon divers inside to explore the corridors and cabins. The hull and the superstructure are encrusted with colourful marine life attracting numerous fish species and seals are also commonly encountered. The propeller is still intact and easy to swim though (great for a photo opportunity!).
Henry Bolte 20 - 30 metres
The Henry Bolte worked as a fire fighting tug and was launched in 1966. It now lies on a sandy bottom and has been broken into several sections after hitting the reef during rough seas. The wreck is a great site to practice mapping skills and its positioning allows easy access into different parts of the wreck. The fish love the artificial reef and you can expect to see blind sharks, schools of snapper and even a few seals.
