About This Trip
Experience the only true ocean cave dive in Australia and get prepared to be amazed. This is reputedly one of the best dives in the country - if not the world! Fish Rock Cave, a 125m submerged tunnel, is home to one of the largest single collection of the highly endangered grey nurse shark. Due to the rock’s proximity to the continental shelf, currents wash the rock continually bringing the all important nutrients and with that an abundance in marine life including kingfish, grey nurse sharks, fusiliers, blue groupers, lion fish, turtles and tropical fish.
Dive Sites
Fish Rock Cave 25 - 11 metres
Starting at the deepest side of the tunnel you traverse through a pitch black chimney packed with fish and crustaceans like the hairy reef lobster. Huge rays glide like ghosts through the tunnel leading you past a curtain of fish as the turquoise light burst through the blackness of the tunnel at the opening, revealing a large group of nurse sharks and wobbegongs.
Shark Alley 20 - 35 metres
On the eastern side of this rocky island is the grey nurse shark zone. These graceful and magnificent creatures congregate amongst the gutters and tunnels of the rock’s surrounding terrain and are a must-see experience.
The Pinnacle 7 - 30 metres
A twin-peaked ‘mountain’ rises from 30m up to 6m off the north-east corner of the rock. Huge Queensland groupers and fish circulate in the gulleys and rock gutters surrounding the pinnacle and you may also find grey nurse shark cruising by.
Fish Bommies 25 - 32 metres
A huge boulder rising from the sea floor to 25 metres attracting large schools of fish including pelagics. This is also home to resident loggerhead and green turtles.
